Named in honour of OYA, the magical Warrior Goddess in African mythology, this timeless wardrobe staple is designed to become more beautiful with age. The natural marks and blemishes are still visible, and the leather will develop its own patina over time, making each piece completely unique. Due to its lightweight nature, the Oya is a favourite amongst those on the go and can easily be packed for travel. Please note the Springbok horn charm is sold separately.
Oya is the warrior goddess in African mythology. Known for being strong and courageous, her power comes from the wind. As a Female Warrior, she fights ferociously and is fearless in her protection of her children and mates. In all that she does, she is independent, unpredictable, fierce and beautiful.
Working with select tanneries in the Karoo region, Okapi has pioneered the use of Blesbok leather. Blesbok leather is in keeping with our ethos as it is ethically and sustainably sourced as a by-product of the existing farming industry in South Africa. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure all processes are of the highest safety and quality, along with ethical production practices that respect both animal welfare and the environment. The natural markings that the animal incurs in the wild are included on the skins which are used. This adds to the uniqueness of each piece and is a deliberate inclusion in order to give a more organic and changeable quality.
